Cleaning the casting from the cores

Electrohydraulic cleaning of castings from cores and molding compound residues

Technology implements

Removal of cores and molding compound residues from thin- and thick-walled steel, cast iron, aluminum, titanium and other castings weighing from several tens of grams to hundreds of tons (including precision castings) of any degree of complexity in single, small-batch, large-batch and mass production.

The essence of technology

It is based on the use of a high-voltage discharge between a special electrode and the casting in the liquid. As a result, high-intensity pressure waves and hydroflows are formed and propagated in the liquid, which act on the casting body and the core mixture, causing the destruction and removal of the latter.

Advantages of technology

  • Significant increase in productivity (2–4 times)
  • Reducing cost and energy consumption while ensuring high quality of core punching from complex castings
  • Radical improvement of working conditions and environmental conditions at the knockout site
  • Mechanization of heavy manual labor
  • Elimination of conditions for the occurrence of occupational diseases (vibration disease, silicosis, etc.)

Technology efficiency

  • Removal of core and molding compounds of almost any strength
  • Elimination of additional casting cleaning operations
  • Reducing residual stresses in castings without heat treatment
  • Stabilization of geometric dimensions of castings
  • Reduction of production area by 2–2.5 times

Implementation

The technology has been implemented at enterprises in Ukraine and Russia, and has also been exported to Japan, Germany, Sweden, Spain, Hungary, Romania, India, Bulgaria, Slovakia, and Cuba.
